RENEWING THE LIGHTING OF KEURUUN MEGAMARKET WAS A COMPREHENSIVE SUCCESS

Keuruun Megamarket is a department store established in Keuruu, Finland in 2005. In 2016, the lighting of the entire building and outdoor areas was renewed by Greenled. Sufficient and pleasant lighting has effects on both occupational safety and the appearance of goods. The new lighting has also provided significant cost-savings.
Keuruun Megamarket is a local family-owned business with Kari Ketola as the managing director. The company has just one department store, and it offers an extensive product range from foodstuffs and building materials. The original reason for renewing the lighting was due to the maintenance-related challenges of fluorescent tube and halogen lighting as well as costs.

“The biggest pressure for replacing the luminaires was due to the amount of bulb replacements in fluorescent tube lighting, which always caused its own challenges,” says Ketola.

“Costs were naturally the other reason. The shop previously had 649 luminaires, translating into an average consumption of 65 kilowatts per hour. The lighting was on for 13 hours per day on average. The cost pressure was, therefore, a major factor,” Ketola remembers.

SUCCESSFUL INSTALLATION WITHOUT INCONVENIENCE TO THE CUSTOMERS

Greenled supplied and installed new lighting in the entire department store, including indoor premises, offices, bathrooms, cafeterias, warehouses etc. The project also covered outdoor lighting. In addition to Greenled being Finnish, it was selected based on efficiency and good design work. Once the deal had been signed, the implementation could commence. The old fluorescent lamps were replaced by LED lighting.

“Starting from the first contact, everything began to roll really smoothly,” Ketola says.

“We planned a detailed installation schedule. The implementation was close to perfect. The installation did not cause any inconvenience to the customers, even though we had lifting machines moving around here. The fitters did their job really great, quickly, efficiently and pleasantly with a good attitude,” he describes.

Ketola has been very pleased with the new lighting implemented by Greenled. The new, sufficient and pleasant lighting plays a significant role in terms of occupational safety and the appearance of products, for example. It also has a major impact on costs.

“Lighting has a significant effect on occupational safety. For example, if there is a dim or unevenly lit space accessed from a brighter space, the lighting power may have more effect than it actually is, which can give rise to accidents,” Ketola says.

“Energy consumption has decreased by almost 300,000 kilowatt-hours. These savings are truly significant. Based on the plans, we calculated that the consumption of lighting would plummet 58%, but I absolutely think that we have reached an even better outcome. The new lighting will quickly repay itself in the form of lower consumption,” he sums up.

“We have no complaints whatsoever with regard to how the project was completed from start to finish. “I can recommend Greenled from the bottom of my heart to others as a lighting supplier,” Ketola concludes.
